HOLIDAY FRUIT BARS
1 cup pitted cooked prunes
1/3 cup granulated sugar
¼ cup water
¼ cup orange juice
½ cup sliced candied cherries
1 cup sifted enriched flour
1 cup brown sugar
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
½ cup shortening
1 ½ cups uncooked rolled oats
3 tablespoons milk
1 tablespoon grated orange peel
Combine prunes. granulated sugar, water and orange juice;
cook until thick. About 10 minutes. Add candied cherries. Sift
together flour. brown sugar, salt and nutmeg. Cut in shortening until mixture
resembles corn meal. Add rolled oats. milk and orange peel. mixing
thoroughly. Pack one-half of the crumb mixture into a greased 8 inch
square pan. Spread fruit mixture evenly over this layer of crumbs.
Cover with remaining crumbs. Bike in oven 350°. 40 minutes.
Cool and cut in squares.

SWEDISH CHRISTMAS
COOKIES
1 cup sugar 3 egg yolks
½ cup shortening Juice of one orange
3 cups flour
Cream shortening and sugar, add beaten egg yolks, orange
juice, then flour. Chill dough overnight, roll thin. Cut with
cookie cutter, sprinkle red sugar over top, and put raisins in top.
Bake at 350°F. for 10-12 minutes.
PECAN CLUSTERS
Yield: 3 dozen cookies
¼ cup butter or margarine
½ cup sugar
1 ½ tsp. vanilla
1 ½ squares( 1 ½ ounces)
unsweetened chocolate, melted
1 egg
½ cup sifted flour
¼ tsp. baking powder
½ tsp. salt
2 cups unbroken pecans or walnuts
Mix together the margarine and sugar. Add
egg and vanilla; mix well. Mix in melted chocolate, then the dry
ingredients which have been sifted together. Stir in the pecans.
Drop by teaspoonfuls one inch apart onto a cookie sheet. Bake in
oven 350°F. just 10 to 12 minutes.
